The Darkness Returned

10th Day of January, The Year of Our Source 2026
There is a page in my journal that does not belong to me.
I do not know when it was placed there or by whom. The ink is darker than my own, the hand more deliberate. No signature. No date. Only weight.
It smells faintly of smoke.
I believe Morrigan wrote it:
Not announced. Not summoned. She never is. Antonia arrives when the world has drifted just far enough toward forgetting. The smoke folded inward and there she was, unchanged, unhurried, as if absence were merely another way of watching.
People think I stand unflinching because I am fearless. That is not it. I stand because she taught me how. Long before titles. Long before Knights. Long before anyone called me Infernal. She taught me that reaction is a luxury and stillness is a weapon.
She is my mother. Not gentle. Not cruel. Exact.
When she named me Infernal of the Knights, she did not bless me. She recognized me. There is a difference. Blessings can be revoked. Recognition cannot. You either are what you are, or you are ash pretending otherwise.
I did not look at the bones when she left. I did not need to. I know what it means when she cleans a space on her way out. Someone crossed a line they should have known better than to approach. Someone became a lesson without earning a name. That is her mercy.
I am not afraid of her. I am afraid of disappointing her. Not because she would punish me, but because disappointment from her means I failed to understand something fundamental. She does not demand obedience. She demands awareness.
The realm calls her dangerous. That is true, but incomplete. She is not dangerous because she destroys. She is dangerous because she remembers why destruction exists.
I felt her notice me. That is all. No nod. No words. Just acknowledgment. That was enough.
When she was gone, the air loosened, but I did not. Some part of me never does after she leaves. It stays braced, sharpened, reminded.
I am her daughter.
I am her work.
And tonight, she found the world still tolerable enough to leave standing.
That will have to be sufficient.
