The Quiet Ending of a War

The Quiet Ending of a War

24th Day of August, The Year of Our Source 2011

Tonight, the first war in the Source’s Realm came to its quiet end.

No clashes. No grand speeches. No final blow.
Only a conversation — and the decisive hand of the one who made us.

Arch Oberon spoke with the Source directly, confirming the terms that would bring the conflict to a close. Eternal Love would offer war tribute in the form of all the potency held by Fides, Ashe, and Rade. Not deleted. Not scattered. But deliberately transferred to Camellia Vyper, the childe they had ambushed and slain.

The Source handled the transfer himself.
Each number spoken aloud, each sum gathered and shifted into her keeping.
When it was finished, Camellia held over fifty potency — a restoration that felt more like a judgment carved into stone.

Only then did he declare the war concluded.

He noted that Camellia had been the only true casualty and offered revival to any others who had fallen in the surrounding conflicts. He spoke of reopening the old channels of power, of restoring the pathways that had quieted during the conflict. Even that, in its way, felt ceremonial — the slow settling of dust after upheaval, the Realm remembering how to breathe again after holding itself taut and still.

What struck me most came after the formalities, in the quieter words exchanged between the Source and Arch Oberon. Oberon spoke of stepping back, of observing in silence, of alliances forming behind the scenes. He talked of archives — locked vaults of history, curated even now while the dust of present events still hangs in the air. And the Source, in that strange, gentle way he has when he knows more than he will ever say, encouraged him.

Then came the final measure of judgment:
fifty Prestige granted to Arch Oberon,
fifty removed from Arch Fides.

A balancing of scales, simple and absolute.

The Source named Ravens Claw not just the victor, but the party in the morally correct position. Eternal Love had committed an act of war. War had been met. War had been resolved. Tribute paid. Justice done.

It is strange how small the end of a war can feel — not loud, not triumphant, but settled, like the last ripple in a pond after a stone has already sunk to the bottom.

And yet something about tonight feels foundational.
As though the Realm has learned how conflicts will be handled from this point forward.
As though a precedent has been written in the blood and numbers of this quiet conclusion.

Two weeks ago, war began.
Tonight, it ended.

And I am left with the sense that even though the last word has been spoken, the consequences are only just beginning to take shape beneath the surface.
